Lip cremes are all the craze right now in the beauty scene. All kinds of brands are releasing their own versions of them and for good reason! They’re not a lipstick, not a gloss, not a stain. They’ve revolutionized the lipstick category of every makeup aisle.
I’ve heard a ton of rave about the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes in the recent weeks that when I stumbled upon a cute 3-pack at Urban Outfitters, I had to snag them. The set came with shades Copenhagen, Monte Carlo, and Transylvania.
Contrary to a pretty popular consensus, I am not a fan. Let me tell you why.
- They’re incredibly drying on the lips! If you’re like me and have naturally dry lips that despite the amount of lip balm you lather on you can’t get a smooth base, this isn’t for you. The formula has no element of hydration that when I apply it, it’s not flattering.
- The formula is streaky. You know when you find those videos on Instagram of a woman applying a gorgeous, pigmented lip creme and it turns out absolutely flawless? Well, what happened to me with these products was the complete opposite. It didn’t glide on and when I tried to layer it, I got a streaky mess. You can kind of see what I’m talking about in the swatches below.
- The pigmentation is sub-par. When you think of lip cremes, or any lip product for that matter, you want one layer to be sufficient. Once again, these missed to fulfill that expectation. To get these swatches I had to apply it 4 or 5 times.
Clearly these products were a disappointment to me, which is a shame because NYX is a decent brand in my books when it comes to affordable makeup.
But not all hope is lost, rumor has it they’ve released another line of lip cremes that are catching every blogger’s eye. Hopefully, they amuse me more than these did.
Until next time! 🙂
