5 Product Makeup Look

It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a makeup enthusiast. I mean I started this blog because I bored my friends by talking about it and needed to expand my horizons to the people of the internet. Even though I adore my extensive makeup routine, I thought it would be a fun challenge to allow myself the luxury of only reaching for 5 products and to create a wearable look out of it.

Let me tell you, it was not easy.

How am I supposed to contour, highlight, cover, prime, and mattify with only 5 products?! It definitely took some strategizing and multi-tasking.

The first product I chose was a foundation. In my opinion, a base is the most important part of any makeup routine. It balances out your face and creates a blank canvas for whatever else you want to add later! I reached for the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in the Matte + Poreless formula. (I’m shade 228.) I’m planning on doing a post all about my favorite foundations so I won’t go too in depth about it. But I chose this because it sets matte which means I can skip the powdering step!

Generally, step #2 is to use an under-eye concealer but due to the constraints I put on myself I skipped this step and moved straight to bronzer and highlighting. The second product was the NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette.  Man, I’m positive that every time I open this palette up I hear the beautiful voices of angels. If you’re new to contouring and don’t want to drop a bucket load on the Anastasia Beverly Hill Contour Kit, this is a great dupe for it. You get 4 bronzer shades, and 4 highlights (including 1 shimmer.) I used a bronzer to add some color and definition back into my face. The same palette had a highlighter and I added some shimmer to the tops of my cheekbones and the high points of my nose.

After this my base is done and it’s time to move on to the eyes and eyebrows.

This is where my new baby comes in. Product #3 was the Tartelette in Bloom eye shadow palette. Let’s just take a moment to admire it’s beauty. I’ve used this palette every day since I bought it two months ago. No joke.

The color range is perfect for creating a simple everyday look. I blended the shade “Smarty Pants” through the crease, put “Flower Child” all over the lid, and “Rebel” in the outer corner. Then, I took an angled brush and ran “Smokeshow” on the bottom lash line to act as eyeliner. These shadows are perfect for filling in your eyebrows as well! The shade “Activist” is just the right shade of brown that works perfectly with my brows. I just need to have a light hand when using it to make sure I don’t draw on something that resembles a caterpillar.

I literally used one product to do three different things. Multi-tasking at its best!

My final two products are the Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious Full Fan Effect mascara and the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper. These two are pretty self explanatory, I just can’t live without a wing on my top liner and mascara on my lashes. It pulls together the look.

But there you have it. 5 products, one entire makeup look. Considering I usually use about 12-14 products I think I did pretty well! I love challenges like this because it really got me thinking about how much less I have to pack when I travel now. Thank goodness for that!

If you have done or want to do this challenge, what 5 products would you choose? Let me know in the comments!
